Vinski vrh (literally “Wine Top”) is also known as Vimperk and is a small brother of Gora Oljka. This is not a demanding hike and won’t be appreciated by people who seek steep climbs and dangerous paths. It is a hike when you don’t have much time or when the weather is too bad to conquer higher slopes.
From on highway Ljubljana – Celje exit at Polzela sign and drive for cca. 10 minutes until you actually reach Polzela. Go through the center. You will reach a sharp left turn and then take the first right turn off the main road. Drive for a couple of hundred meters and soon you will see a sign on the tree directing you to Vimperk. Park here. The path will take you through forest up to the field. When you reach it, the path looses in grass so some orientation skills will be needed. If you orientate yourself towards the houses at the other end of the field you won’t get lost. Use a path going by the field, do not stomp over the actual field thus avoiding farmers wrath. When you reach a small settlement (Sp. Podvin) turn left and find the marks that will lead you on a macadam road. A beautiful view on Lower Savinja Valley opens. There’s a wooden bench so you can really enjoy the nature. When you decide to continue the hike the marks will make you turn left through oak forest. You are close to the top. Just before you reach it you are greeted by the church of St. Miklavž from 15th century. It is a chunky little church. Right on top you will find a registration book and a stamp of “Savinjska mountain trail” (you can order a journal here). There’s also a hut but it’s rarely open. If you still have energy and time you can continue to Gora Oljka if not retrace your steps back to the car. The whole walk won’t take you more than one hour. I recommend it for older people and families with small kids. |
