First we have to get to Lipa, a pass that connects Lower and Upper Savinja valley. On a highway between Ljubljana and Celje exit for Vransko and drive through the center of an idyllic old town. On the end of the town you will see a sign for Vologa. Follow it to the sign for Lipa. From here on you have 5 km of good road to get the before mentioned pass. Once you get there leave the car on a small parking lot near the chapel.
The marks will lead you up through the forest. The path is quite wide but it is quite steep at some points and doesn't level until the top. So expect half an hour of uphill walking. Just before you reach Sv. Jošt there's a small church on your left. It is a church of St. Gervazij and St. Protazij, the only one in Slovenia dedicated to those two saints. Unfortunatelly it is closed since WW 2 when the interior was burned down. But they are renewing it slowly. Continue forward on the macadam road, as you can already see the church of St. Jošt (Sv. Jošt). From the beautiful church from 15th century spectacular views open. You can see Čemšeniška planina, red cliffs of Krvavica, Kum, Gozdnik, Lower Savinja valley, Vransko etc. If you want to visit the church just knock on the doors of the nearby house. Local people here are very firendly and they will show you the inside of the church. If you've had enough use the same way to get to the car, but if you want to hike some more continue to Tolsti vrh (1077 m) that is one hour away. |
