Šmohor stands over a town of Laško, a beer capital of Slovenia. “Laško pivo” (Laško beer) with a beautiful castle and a well known health center makes Laško an interesting destination. But our path starts in Tremerje, a settlement just a few kilometers before Laško.

From Celje drive towards Zidani Most and when you pass Košnica turn left just before “Hohkraut Inn” that is situated near the bridge over railway. You are on the old Celje – Laško road. Drive through Tremerje until you reach a tunnel that is closed and where the road ends. Park there and find the path that goes by the house.

At first you will walk on a wide macadam road that will lead you by some lonely houses and at some points maybe you will have to ask for directions as some of the marks are not quite visible at first glance. But do not fear, you cannot get lost here, I’m just suggesting that when you won’t know which path to follow just look around for the marks.

After a while the path becomes a forest trail and the first views over Gozdnik , Kotecnik , Kamnik and Kamnisko – Savinjske alps open. At some points the trail is ruined by woodchoppers. Logs towed out leave deep scars in the soil and that is really a big minus to the whole experience.

Once at top you will find a hut that is open every day of the week. Near the hut (10 minutes) there’s a church of St. Mohor (hence the name Šmohor) from 15th Century. Further away there’s a TV antenna that is visible from a lot of places.

In the south-east you can see Laško, Lisca and Bohor, to the south there’s Šmihel with the church of St. Mihael. Further away there’s Kum with its antenna. Westwards you can see Gozdnik . Paški Kozjak and Pohorje are in the north.

The whole “tour” took us some 4 hours. 2 hours to the top, 45 minutes for the beer and the rest for descent. You can also descend to Laško and then use the local bus to get to Tremerje where you have parked your car. The descent to Laško will last 1h 15 minutes.
