Kunigunda is a popular destination of »Sunday hikers« and mountainbikers and a first »checkpoint« of Savinjska Mountain Trail. The starting point of this hike is just 10 minutes drive from the center of Celje in village Šmartno that lies North of Celje. Drive by the church and after 50 m turn left uphill and drive another 300 m until you reach macadam road where you can park your vehicle.

Head up on the macadam road. It will take about 15 minutes to reach the crucifix where the marks on the tree will lead you onto the forest trail.

From here on the path is narrow and goes through the forest until you reach the top. There are some steep parts that can be tricky in wintertime, but nothing really serious that would require some extra equipment.

On top there's a church of st. Kunigunda and a hut that is open only on Sundays. A good view of Celje is on hand.

Descend begins behind the hut. When you reach the saddle with the crossroad, turn left and follow the macadam to the car.

The whole hike lasts a good hour.
