Interesting hill on the outskirts of Celje, Krvavica has a real unique shape. It's clearly visabeble from the old road between Celje and Ljubljana, where you turn left at the sign Tabor (between Šempeter and Vransko) if you are coming from Celje and right if you are coming from Ljubljana. Follow the road signs for Loke, after this little village you will get to a weird triangule crossroads, where you must keep left on the dirtroad. Soon you will get to a road where you'll see a small parking place just besides the road on your right. Opposite of that starts the path to Krvavica. It's a a forest path, pretty steep, can be slippery and muddy in or after wet weather. Most of the path goes through the woods, but there is one climbing part as well, but do not fear as it is secured with pitons and iron rope. You will go through »window« here, a big hole in the wall. That is after cca. 45 minutes of hiking.
Soil here is red, legend has it it's so becouse Veronika Deseniška (mistress of Friderik, count of Celje) was killed here. Just before this rocky part there are few really narrow and slippery paths on the sloap of the hill, so be really carefull here. If you slip it will take you a while before you stop. Few minutes after the »window« you get to the top of the hill, where you have some beautifull views. You can go back the same way or around the »cliff« that ends the peak. Path here is not so well marked and it's also pretty steep. There is another way past Zajčeva koča, I haven't checked that one out yet. Described hike shouldn't take you more than an hour from car to the peak and few minutes less on your way down. It's really a nice afternoon hike if you are a bit limited with time. Make sure you wear a good shoe and, as always, drink a lot of water. Krvavica is also a part of Savinjska mountain trail so don't forget your journal if you have it. |
