Gozdnik just barely makes it into the Over 1000 category. It is not one of the most interesting peaks as there are no views from the top but as it is a symbol of Savinjska mountain trail a visit to Goznik is obligatory. It is also the highest peak in the close proximity of Celje. My grandmother’s weather forecast was always right: if there were clouds covering the peak of Gozdnik, the rain was inevitable. Some older people still look in Gozdnik’s direction to decide if they should take an umbrella with them or not.
The starting point is the as we described in Kotecnik hike. Follow the sign in the opposite direction Of Kotecnik, uphill pass the monument to fallen partisans. Cross the meadow into the forest. The path is pretty straightforward and goes mainly through the forest. At some points the path is pretty steep. At some point you will reach a saddle where the view openes and you can see Celje basin and neighboring hills. The trail will take you pass the weekend houses into the forest again. You still have some 15 minutes to the top where the bivouac awaits you. Take some time to explore the top and don’t forget to take a stamp if you have a journal. The whole hike to the top will take about 1.30 h. |
