There are many ways leading to Mrzlica. Here’s the one we took. If you start in Celje, drive towards Žalec, that’s the old road to Ljubljana. In Žalec turn left to Griže and continue from Griže towards Zabukovica. In Zabukovica turn right at the “Minerva” factory. There’s already a sign for Mrzlica. The road goes by the spring of Artišnica through small village Podgozdnik. At one point you will see a dirt road on your right. Take it. After around 200 meters you will reach a starting point where you leave your car.
There are few signs, one leads to nearby Kamnik (861 m). It only takes a good half an hour there. But we will take the path to Mrzlica. It’s well marked and takes you through the woods and grasslands. At certain points it gets a bit steep, but far from a serious climb. More like a pleasant uphill walk. Just be carefull after rain, because it can be pretty slippery and at some points muddy. Those who love flowers and other plants will enjoy it for sure for you can see lots of them. Actually the grasslands around peak are protected as part of a nature park. After an hour and 20 minutes you will probably reach the hut. From there is about 3 to 4 minutes to the top. In clear weather the view is beautiful, you can see Kamniske Alps, lower Savinjska valley, town Trbovlje and other nearby peaks. The descent will take you few minutes less. A pleasant afternoon walk, very suitable for children too. The hut even has a small playground for them and is open every day of the week. |
