Govško brdo is surrounded by more known hills like Mrzlica, Kal, Šmohorand Kopitnik. »Brdo« in it's name means »hill« and »Govško« comes from the settlement beneath the hill called Govce. It is 811 meters high and to get to the summit you have to master the steep but beautiful path.

Starting points are two. For those who want to walk longer start in Zgornja Rečica (Upper Rečica) where you will see the sign for Zavrate. To get to here you have to exit for Celje on Ljubljana – Maribor highway and follow the road in Zidani Most direction. A few minutes drive separates Celje and Laško where you turn right to Rečica. Follow the road that goes straight until you get to Zgornja Rečica. The beautiful church of St. Anton is your starting point. If you want to save half an hour, just drive to Zavrate where you can leave your car at the log cabin. Just follow the road pass the church and when you get to the sign where the main road takes you to the right you just go straight to the side road. Follow the asphalt road until you reach Zavrate.

Once at the log cabin on Zavrate the sign will lead you to the steep path into the forest. I don’t recommend this one after rain as you’ll get really dirty. I also advise to use your hiking poles as the path is really steep at some points.

The path levels a few times, but it is mainly steep all to the top. At the top there are three wooden benches where you can enjoy the vista over Kum and Kopitnik. From the path you can see Gozdnik, Mrzlica, Kal and Šmohor.

The hike from Zavrate will take cca. 40 minutes and additional 30 more if you start in Zgornja Rečica.
