Brinjeva gora lies beneath Rogla, one of the most popular Slovenian ski resorts. In a town Zreče make a right turn from the main road towards the church and after you passed it turn right again. Then drive uphill until you reach the crossroad where the Zimmrajh restaurant is. Turn right and leave the car at the first farm that you see. You will see the signs for Brinjeva gora but ignore them. Walk down the road and after some 100 m turn left onto macadam road. Be alert as the path is hard to see but it is on your left side and leads into the forest. You will see it after 20 – 30 meters on the macadam road.
This is the most interesting way to conquer Brinjeva gora. It is called Boštjan’s path and is a secured climbing course. It is short but very dynamic and entertaining with lots of pitons and iron ropes. You can bring your kids and practice secured climbing with them. The path also goes beneath two climbing walls / rocks, so if you feel like free climbing bring your climbing shoes.
After you’ve left the macadam road the path goes through thick forest and some orientation skills are necessary. The path is very steep at some points. Soon you will reach the ruins of a castle. Climb over the old walls. The path continues and leads you to the crossroad. Boštjan’s path is to the left. Imagine, there’s some local guy (I presume) that had the time and energy to secure a course and name it after himself. Cool. I wonder if he was sitting at home one day, idle, thinking “Hey, I have an idea…” Boštjan, whoever you are, respect!
Soon after you’ve chosen this adventurous path the first pitons and ropes welcome you. When there are no ropes use the branches and roots. The path can be very narrow at some points so be careful. Some crawling through the bushes is necessary.
At some point you will come across a steel ladder, which can be tricky as it pushes you away from the rock but nothing really demanding. Just don’t let it surprise you.
You will pass two climbing rocks but I haven’t met anyone climbing there yet. So if you want solitude while free climbing, maybe this is your chance. Our path continues through the bushes, fern and other undergrowth until it reaches the top where the registration book is and a stamp and a view at Oplotnica.
Find your way to the church of St. Martin and head down the road towards the other church St. Neža. At St. Neža make right turn and you are on the macadam that brought you to the forest path at the beginning so just follow it to the car.
The whole hike won’t take more than 1 hour of your time. |
