Grmovškov dom (Grmovšek hut) is a starting point of this picturesque hike over Slovenj Gradec part of Pohorje. To get here you must exit for Velenje on Ljubljana – Maribor highway. Follow the road in Slovenj Gradec direction and turn right at Kope sign. Grmovšek hut is on Mala Kopa.

From the hut head towards the ski slope. In winter you can ski here on some wonderful terrains. Turn on the right one and just follow whatever path you will find. The path is not steep and the terrain is really pleasant to walk on. It always amazes me how the grass is soft around here.

In summer you will come across some herds of sheep. It is funny and interesting to observe the social dynamic in the herd. There’s always a head ram that will come and check you out (or not, depends on his activities at the moment)!

On your right you will soon see big clouds of smoke. They’re from the Šoštanj steam power plant. You can also see Uršlja Gora with the antenna rising in the West.

When you reach Črni vrh (Black Top) make sure you stamp your journal and sign yourself in the register book. There’s a statue for the victims of Liberation Front.

From Črni vrh find the sign for Ribniška koča (Lake hut) and some 30 minutes of gentle downhill awaits you. When you’re at the Ribniška koča, you have around 10 minutes to the beautiful lake. Peat underneath the water gives the lake a black color.

In Ribniška koča we ate tasteful mushroom soup and then headed back towards the car. The whole hike will take some 3 hours of walking.
