Donacka gora is also known as Styrian Triglav due to it's similar shape as the highest mountain in Slovenia. It got the name after the church of St. Donat that lies beneath.

The hike starts at Rudi's hut that you can reach if you follow the road towards Rogaška Slatina and then to Rogatec. In Rogatec find the signs to Donacka gora that will lead you to Rudi's hut (Rudijev dom). But if you seek peace and solitude I recomend that you visit the peak during week days as at weekends a lot (and I mean a lot!) of hikers are enjoying the fresh air.

The path zig-zagues through virgin forest and can be pretty steep at some points. Beware of slippery terrain after the rain. You should also know that this path is more than 150 years old and was made and marked by dr. Ernst Froelich. In spring and summer the flora here is astonishing.

After you reached the top you are greeted by a giant cross and rewarded by spectacular views over to Kamnisko – Savinjske alps, Urslja gora, Pohorje, neighbor Boc etc. From hut to the top is 45 minutes. If you want, you can go to the next »head« (Donacka Gora has three peaks), just find the path behind the statue. It will take you about 30 minutes to get there. Also from here on you are not likely to meet a lot of hikers anymore.

When descending, find some time and visit the museum-village in Rogatec, get a good meal in manor Strmol (also in Rogatec) and if you still have time and energy hike to the ruins of the Rogatec castle (behind the church in center of Rogatec – 10 minutes).

All in all a good hike, but next time we will go during week days.
