One of the possible hikes from Klemenca jama, one of my favorite spots in Kamniško – Savinjske Alps, is a trek to Strelovec. Not so popular as other peaks surrounding it, Strelovec has a lot to offer and is really underestimated. Green grass, narrow path and wild animals are the strongest points of Strelovec.

Starting at the back of the hut at Klemenca jama our first goal will be the fattest larch tree in Slovenia. It will take some 10 minutes to get to this wonder of nature.

After we hugged the larch we can continue up the forest path. To be honest the next 30 to 40 minutes will be pretty boring. No views and the path goes zig zag through the forest. When you reach the crossroad head left as the right way will take you to much higher and demanding Krofička.

From now on the hike is like a dream but be careful as the path is very narrow and slippery at some points after the rain. If you walk quietly you will be able to observe deer, chamois or mouflons. If you go to Strelovec very early in the day so that you reach the top before 5 in the morning you will be able to listen to heat-cock, a very rare bird still living here.

The walk here is not so demanding as we are on top of the long ridge and the views are spectacular. On left side we have Logarska valley and on the right side we can see Roban’s corner. Straight ahead is Raduha and at our back Krofička and Ojstrica.

As the shepherds herd their sheep on Strelovec you won’t be able to avoid sheep excrement so you will reach the top covered in mud. But don’t worry it will drop of your shoes on the way back.

From Klemenca jama it will take an hour and a half to reach the top. Good hiking shoes are not necessary but highly recommended.
