The whole tour goes like this: Logarska valley - Klemenča Jama (1208 m) – Ojstrica (2350 m) – Škarje – Lučka Baba (2244 m) – Planjava (2392 m) – Kamniško Sedlo (1864 m) – Okrešelj (1396 m) – waterfall Rinka (1000 m) - Logarska valley
We've been talking a long time to take this hike. It's a really demanding one. First my idea was to take it the other way around, starting at Rinka waterfall, but it was joint agreement to start from Klemenča Jama as we went to Ojstrica on very demanding Kopinšek path. It’s a good thing to go to Klemenča Jama the evening before and sleep there. Rough estimation was that the whole tour will take us 12 hours. It takes you around half an hour from Klemenča Jama through the woods to come to a crossing where you can choose how to climb to Ojstrica. We chose Kopinšek’s path. It’s a very demanding, but well protected and one of the most beautiful paths in entire Kamniško - Savinjske Alps. For a short while you are still in the woods, soon rocky part comes in. It’s essential that you have plenty of water with you, as you won’t be able to get it until the hut on Kamniško Sedlo. Not to mention good mountain shoes. The path is well marked so you shouldn’t have any problems. On Škrbina (1800m), a saddle between Krofička and Ojstrica, first pitons and iron ropes start appearing. They are there for a reason, at some points you climb vertically on a wall. The views here are magnificent, take enough time to enjoy them. On the upper part you cross the Ojstrica right bellow the peak. It’s something you’ll never forget. But path here is really narrow and dangerous, so be extra careful. If you slip here you’ll probably end up around 1000 meters lower. 20 minutes after that you are on the top of queen Ojstrica with entire Logarska valley below you. I could stay there and enjoy the views entire day. After you had your share of views, descend to Škarje is the next thing to do. Škarje is the saddle between Ojstrica and the Babe ridge. It got the name after it’s shape (Škarje means scissors). The path leads you to the other side of the ridge, towards Korošica. After half an hour or so, you must be alert for signs, so you don’t miss the “exit” that goes right and up for Škarje. Otherwise you’ll end up on Korošica. The path is mostly rocky, up and down with some patches of grass. There’s one point with pitons and iron ropes, where you must be more careful as you find yourself in the wall climbing down on pitons. But nothing too serious. Hour after you left Ojstrica, you should be on Škarje. From there you will walk mostly upwards until descend from Planjava to Kamniško sedlo. There are few peaks on the Babe ridge, if you feel so, you can visit them all. Most of them are just a few minutes upwalk from the path. They are more or less the same, at least regarding views. Last “hill” before descent to Kamniško Sedlo is mighty Planjava that “guards” the saddle opposite of Brana. Fill your batteries on it’s peak, as Kamniško Sedlo is not quite as close as it seems. Descent there takes at least hour and a half. Be careful as some parts are really steep down and full of small rocks and stones. Don’t hurry, despite the fact that hut on saddle seems a grasp away and you have a feeling that you are walking forever from the point where you saw it. Be patient. Once finally there, have a bit longer break (by this time you are probably on the hike for around eight hours), eat a hot dish and maybe have small beer or borovničevec. Fill your gourd with water for you still have around three hours to the Rinka waterfall. Path from saddle to Okrešelj is steep, slippery and can lead to falling rocks if you’re not careful (already described in “Brana” article). It takes an hour and a half or two to Okrešelj, where you can feel your feet big time and you still have around 45 minutes that seem much longer to Rinka. This path is very popular, so you’ll probably meet a lot of people. Due to this fact is also very “used out”, meaning that stones are very slippery, so be alert. Have a sip of Savinja river at it’s spring and enjoy the view on the bridge on the top of Rinka waterfall. 20 more minutes and you are back in the Logarska valley. It took us a bit less than 12 hours (11:54, to be precise) for this great hike, including quite a number of short stops and a big one at Kamniško sedlo. We enjoyed every minute of it and it’s really something when you are in the Logarska valley, look up and know you did “the whole thing.” Beautiful, but quite demanding tour, strongly recommended to take it during week days, otherwise you will find yourself in crowds at some points. We went on Monday and met three (!!!) hikers on entire tour until descent from Okrešelj. |
